Surf Sisters for Science pledges to foreground the voices of those who will be / are the most impacted by the destruction and chaos of climate change, and are under-represented in main stream media through the Story Lab. We commit to practices that foreground BIPOC scholars, rather than seeking emotional or unpaid labor. We commit to a strong representation of BIPOC within our organization in positions of authority as board members, program directors, and contracted experts. We commit to an insistence on framing climate change in intersectional terms, and acknowledge that anything short of this is violence. We commit to finding joy in the consistent upheaval and resettling of the mind and heart that is integral to anti-racist, intersectional work. And where we fail, we commit to being teachable learners and taking action to correct our mistakes.
